In the road that connects the cities of Siena and Massa Marittima, there is the opportunity to see something really special.
“Le Roste” is an area characterized by a vast reddish terrain, also called as “a miniature of the natural Monument Valley” since it is very reminiscent of its color and its shapes.
All this is not something totally natural, but rather the accumulation of slag resulting from the extraction and processing of copper.
In fact, near this place there is an old mine rich in copper and iron materials that were processed. What was discarded was deposited along the river and when the activity in the mine called “Merse” ceased all these scraps were abandoned.
Time and water then created this wonder that should be absolutely seen if you are in Tuscany.
